I think we’re going to need a bigger boat

“They call me a CEO but I’m still a rower at heart.”

~ Baz Moffat, CEO @ The Well HQ

As you know, we launched our mission as The Well HQ in early 2021. And while these last few years have delivered lifechanging relationships, projects and opportunities, the commercial model has been much harder work.

Our job as the leadership team is to manage, monetise and stabilise a start-up which is, essentially, in uncharted territory.

These last few years have been like the financial version of the game whack-a-mole.

Just when you think you’ve a moment to chill, something new pops up.

Welcome to growth

This year feels different, though. After working August at half-speed, September feels like a new school term. It’s good. It’s a fresh start – and this time more than most.

Specifically, we came back to the news that our work with David Lloyd clubs — training hundreds of female health leads as part of making women’s health a strategic priority — will continue via rollout to 100+ clubs in seven Euro countries.

Similarly, we’ll continue supporting The FA and the WSL’s journey of change from the grassroots up. As you know, this work isn’t just a new standard, it is the new standard – and sports systems around the world are watching with interest.

This is all pinch yourself stuff and, crucially, for the first time we are commercially stable. Okay, we’re still a start-up and stable is a relative term, but when people ask me how it’s going I can now answer genuinely and without reservation.

It’s going ‘brilliantly’, and for the first time I answer sans caveats, ifs and buts.

A gift from the universe

In theory, we’re in a more comfortable position than ever before but that’s no excuse to rest on our laurels. Instead it’s an opportunity to go further, quicker, better, bigger.

In season 25 / 26 we have the team, connections, clients, kudos and momentum on-side to do even more. And what’s more, I can now see and appreciate that TWHQ’s rocky beginning was a gift from the universe custom-designed to line our stomachs and sharpen our resolve in preparation for phase two.

That’s where you join us today. Welcome to phase two. Welcome to growth and, teaser alert, we aren’t doing it alone. After a lot of soul-searching and groundwork we are close to taking our next big leap and it’s going to be big.

Let’s just say we’re we’re mobilising our joints and our ecosystem. Stay tuned.

Season 25 / 26 begins

These days they call me a CEO but I’m still a rower at heart. When I process and plan TWHQ business I can’t help but lapse into moments, memories and metaphors from my rowing days.

When I consider peak teamsmanship then there’s no better example than the boat. When I think about chasing gains I remember how we rowers were empowered and encouraged to bring new ideas, equipment and techniques to the fore.

This is our course at TWHQ yet Season 25 / 26 feels like a brand new boat. The model feels steadier. The right talent’s on-board. The current might even be with us.

Yes, it’s different and it’s scary but this is where growth lives.

Nothing changes if it stays the same – and we’re here to make changes.

So from survival to scale, we’re on the edge awaiting what’s next and we’re glad you’re standing beside us.

TWHQ offer four groundbreaking, evidence-based courses on the female body across her different lifestages.
